I'm officially addicted to this guy.
About a year or so ago I decided to check out the band, Spock's Beard. They're are a renowned progressive rock outfit that, until 2002, were led by Neal Morse. I liked them good enough from buying their album, "Snow". Then I bought "Day for Night". I was really impressed. A little time went by and I decided to check out the supergroup, Transatlantic, also led by Neal Morse. The band also features Pete Trewavas from Marillion on bass, Roine Stolt of Flower Kings and Agents of Mercy on guitar, and one of my favorite drummers, Mike Portnoy, formerly of Dream Theater.
This too I liked pretty good. I knew Neal Morse went on to a solo career, but I was a little hesitant because I knew he was a christian rocker.
Then I checked him out......
Holy shit, I've been hooked for weeks. Yesterday I went so far as to order six of his releases on Amazon. His bands (one in the US and an entirely different group in Europe) are incredible. Neal is an amazing writer and an amazing musician. He is also quite prolific. It seems he puts out about three records a year....some of which I know I will never get because of their 'worship' subtitles. Nevertheless, if you can stand some heavy God-Prog, this guy is amazing.
The first Neal release I bought was the DVD "Sola Scriptura and Beyond" which is nothing short of epic. Then the first CD(s) I obtained was "So Many Roads", a triple live release from '08, also Amazing!
It serves to mention that before I went nuts, I had also obtained three more Spock's Beard CDs:
V - which is superb
Kindness of Strangers- gets better as it goes along, but a little on the weaker side.And..
The Light - which is their first. This one was quite amazing, especially for a first release.
The Solo stuff I ordered are (actually 7)
Cover to Cover
Testimony 2 Live in LA
That's a lot of music. I will update this thread as I process all this.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQhqsczPm1M That is a good example of what he's all about
Here's a solid Transatlantic tune from awhile back.
This is a cover of an Osmonds tune.
Drummer Mike Portnoy is singing lead vocals.
I got my shipment of 7 releases in the mail yesterday.I'm having fun checking stuff out.
Today's video is "Seeds of Gold" from Testimony 2
Listening to the "One" CD now. Quality stuff.
I listened to "?" last night and was Blown Away!
Thought I'd bump this up with a choice vid I just found:
