whats the best iko iko on archives?
check out the version from Philadelphia, Spring, '95
1995 - No. Possible. Way. Riverbend 1985, 12/30/86.
Portland Maine march 85
Riverbend 1985, 12/30/86.
Ditto
Saw it live and still listen to the SBD
with aiko i like the early versions this was a special song back in the day.
12/30/86 is good because the Neville Brothers. If you dig that, check out 7/6/87, Pittsburg. Totally Neville'd up the second set.
I really dug 11/4/77 Colgate U... might have been the breakout, I don't know... It was real slow.
12/31/81 is clean and crisp.
Best I ever actually saw, and as good as any listed above, was Ratdog (shut up), New Orleans in March of 2001. Ivan Neville (son of Aaron), Ian Neville (son of Art, still mostly an amateur then), and Cyril Neville sitting in, along with Memphis sax man Herman Greene and Irvin Mayfield... most of the folks on stage had been playing the tune since they were like 3, so it was one of the few times you get a clusterf*&k sit-in and it totally "gels." Beautiful moment.
I recall 7-2-88 being a good one...I know the Jack Straw that followed it was was really good...lots of Phil bombs...now I need to go find my casette master and give a listen.
I agree with the reaction / post regarding a very perfect rendition of Aiko Aiko from '85 Riverbend Cincinnati (my first show). It was well performed and it was extra special because I was at this show with my late, brother Gordon Scott Gulley (R.I.P)

I was there. I agree.
Telluride 87 another great Aiko.
5/15/77 was the breakout, 12/31/81 was first west coast version. 1/30/87 really helped me out after I got too much sugar at SF Civic!
What are the Fall '80 Acoustic Iko's like ?
I'm quite curious ..
"5/15/77 was the breakout" not the best but my most memorable. It was sweet in St. Louie.
Cal State Dominguez Hills 1990. Crazy Fast Aiko!!
Why is Aiko so special? It's fun and all but I don't get the cult status
It's the best song ever written
9/2/80, when you include the jam the slowly builds from the 'space'. Then the transition to the best Morning Dew this side of 5/8/77 (PERIOD!) Magic happened that night.

With over 700 to choose from who can say which is best, but it's nice to see 9/2/80 getting some love, one of my favorite shows I was at(dosen't hurt that it is a home town show).
3/17/95 was the best one.
9/2/80 is excellent TOO.
>1995 - No. Possible. Way
Did you freaking listen to it?
4/16/78 Iko out of space, top notch. I really like the transition from space. Also the sugar magnolia after Iko is smoking.
>>>4/16/78 Iko out of space, top notch.>>>
My vote as well!
I liked the Alpine '87 one where the helicopter landed behind the stage and Shazam, the boys appear on stage within seconds it seemed and tore right into it. Jerry had bedhead in the worst way still sporting the same cloths from the night before, we were rolling.
Hands down it's the Iko show opener at Nassau, 4-12-82
Keel Aud. was the breakout in 77 if memory serves me correct

that nassau show was great. that might have been my first. they didnt do it much back then .good times
I agree, Vince vocals ruined all 90's Aiko's. Hornsby accordian didn't help either. I guess 6-25-92 Soldier Field was good and that RFK 6-26-93, was allright..if I had to choose a later one, but by 95 you could have called it a Vince tune.
Charlottesville, w. Va - Sept of 78 (can't remember the exact date off the top of my fuzzy head...) Great spacey jam - I always liked Aiko out of space.
Yes, Louis 77 was the first and the best....you had to have been there....
Check out the Wild Tchoupitoulas and Big Chief Jolly from New Orleans and hear the blueprint.
Muck poison manure covering the Neville Brothers
and don't be sore cause rock and roll is all about stealing a lick or two, and a trick or two.
I heard Cooder's sideman David Lindley on EL Rayo X in the name of Brother John in Oslo so don't go off believing the GD made the ultimate version of the song.
The best version of the tune was produced by Allen Toussaint, sung by the Neville Brothers.
I remember the morning I remember it well....
Lindley used to do huge violin solos in Brother John

Hope this doesn't kill anyone's buzz, but Iko was never ome of my fav. tunes. I don't DISlike it, but I don't miss it if I don't hear it either. For me, it was always just one of many covers. YMMV.
