Trying to check them out for the first time, would love to know a good place to start because lets be honest, Bob doesn't suck, he's just not PHIL!
Red Rocks 8/31/02 was fun warmup for Phil. I remember loving the Standing on the Moon.
I gotta do some digging around; i'll find some shows for ya!

this is not an AUD. OR SBD. this is a professional recording made with a mobile studio mark karan was coming into his own as ratdog lead guitarist and this is a great snapshot of the band , a great performance !!
Best to stick with the Karan, Wass , Dave Ellis lineup.
Washington a couple weeks after 9/11 was 2 good sets.
Late 90's>2002, once the new bass and horn arrived, the music started to get a little sleepy.
also check out this one from '03

Also, if you go to ratdog.org and click on the Setlists link, it will list them by year, including ratings. The ratings are a good way to find out which shows people generally agreed were the best.
there was one??
There is one on Archive from Jamaica that really is a good recording and very good show. Damn fine.

I was being lazy above. Here you go.
2/18/07, Vancouver has a nice opening run of Golden Road> Watchtower> Memphis Blues, and is otherwise an ok show imho. I don't have much RD in my collection to compare it to, so can't say it's the "best" of anything. But, Gans played some of it on a GD Hour broadcast, and I really liked that opening run, so I bought the show based on that, and still listen to it occasionally.
check out their europe tour from '02, some great music and energy there. i like ratdog with wasserman better (pre '03) but robin is a hell of a musician. some great music was buffalo '06 if you cant find it anywhere and want to give it a listen let me know
I still plan to post some info for ya. Gotta find the time...

Great setlist, The WRS Let it Grow in the first set was really smokin
Big Iron was sweet to see, well played show from start to finish
Thanks guys
My favorite was at the Outback in Tuscon Arizona, it was back in Spring of 1997. The ASU Wildcats were having their championship that night and the band waited until the game was over which ASU won. The band hit the stage really late. A couple of highlights were the watchtower, the when the wildcats did howl line , got the place into overdrive, as ASU are the wildcats. The Encore was I believe the first Jerry song that was played by ratdog. Bobby stepped up and said "well theres a first time for everything" and the band went into Touch of Grey. It felt like a rebirth, a fun show with some good friends.
ASU = Arizona State Sun Devils, in Tempe
UA = Arizona Wildcats, in Tuscon
oops, thanks jeff, i thought i might have mixed em up
MOst of the Ratdog shows are great
There is one from Chicago in 07 with an eyes closer for the first set -- very killer --woof woof
As an aside, what are the recommended Kimock shows?
Thanks.

actually my favorite ratdog show was probably one of the last...casino ballroom at hammerstein right before further at hammerstein. november 2009..kind of ironic they played the same building on different floors one month apart
A very good RD show with Kimock is the one at Council Bluffs, IA. It includes a slightly ragged, but fun version of "Good Morning Little Schoolgirl".
A couple more more recent RD shows are 8/15/08 Holmdel, NJ)-- very jazzy! Also, 8/26/09 (Missoula, MT)-- huey KLewis plays harp from the second set on. The acoustic mini-set is a lotta fun.
Try these: 8/15/08 (VERY jazzy!) and 8/26/09 (Huey Lewis plays harp during the second set).
Oops!! I didn't think my first post "took". Sorry.

Best RatDog show I've been too is 3/27/04 Jim Thorpe,PA
So to my great sorrow, I missed the Grateful Dead, only getting on the bus in 2004, and just glad that there was somewhat of a bus to get onto! My first several shows were all Ratdog Shows, and I loved every one of them! My two favorites were: one at the Orpheum inBoston in 2008 I think, and they did BERTHA! I think my next best was at Hampton Beach in 2009 when TOO clicked in my head as a favorite - isn't it funny how that happens? My two most recent "clicks" are Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues" and "Mason's Children." I love it that I can listen to this band for the rest of my life, and learn to love new songs all the time - They are about as vast and deep as life itself.
Very profound (and true), Karen!!

I have a soundboard from that Saratoga show, William. I agree; it's a great show!
I was at the Saratoga show and have the soundboard recording. It was indeed a great show, which came as some surprise to me, since the last RatDog show I caught prior to that one was their Sunday night appearance in early June 2008 at Mountain Jam. A fairly dreadful show on a bitterly cold night. Bobby came out and made a crack about the night being "colder than a whore's goodbye" (a line he's used before in different contexts) but seemed spooked when some leather-lung from the audience bellowed "Didn't know ya had to pay for it, dude!"

^^^^^^^^^Great New England style show with free cookies and apple cider^^^^^^^^^^^^^
that's a nice touch !from the promoter or the band ?
I think the venue was doing it, I'm not too sure though. There is water fountains at the Opera House too, if I remember correctly.

>>>Eric, those three shows you listed are three of my favorite too. Weird. The 2004 VT show was really good.<<<
Jim, that's neat to hear! Thank you for sharing.
After posting that message, I listened through the show from the Lebanon Opera House (which DOES in fact have a water fountain.....and as for the cookies and cider, I believe as well that it was the venue that provided them. That's just how it is here!) Anyway, I REALLY enjoyed listening to the show on CD. It really was a good show!)
Ok, admittingly, the harmonies were off in spots, but aside from that, it was REALLY good!
I need to pull out the VT show next to listen to. It's been a while.
Cheers!
