Bruce
The best rock guy I have ever seen ever is Jim Keltner. He's a freakin time machine and I have seen a lot of great drummers!! Jim Gordon was really good indeed. Dallas Taylor was special to me playing double drums with Clear Light and then with CSN. Ansley Dunbar of Crazy World of Arthur Brown,Ansley Dunbar Retaliation,Grand Wazoo,Starship stellar stuff also. Hal Blaine of LA studio fame, Mr. Skin of Spirit, Ed Cassidy, Spencer Dryden of Peanut Butter Conspiracy, JA , NRPS, and the Dinosours..... I could just go on and on. Check out the rest of the bios!!

Good call on Keltner, Rob. Saw him with Cooder in my home town in the 80ies. Minimalist and brilliant.

You got it Rob, I really dig Jim Keltner and Aynsley Dunbar. Saw Spencer Dryden with Dinosaurs, really hot, Old Waldorf, their first Dinosaurs show there. I really dig Matt Abts of Govt. Mule, and Ringo Starr is also a great drummer. I used to dig The Peanut Butter Conspiracy,my friend got me into a lot of psychedelia when I was a teenager. Thanks for the info, I really enjoy chattin with ya,love Bruce!PS Didn't know Spencer was in that group, ya learn somethin new everyday!

Ringo Starr is the most underated drummer in rock!! Charlie Watts and Jim Keltner did a very nice project together BTW!

Another little known fact about British born Spencer Dryden, former strip club drummer in LA ,was that he was Charlie Chaplins nephew, a fact did not did not like to disclose much!!When he would play with Jefferson Airplane at Fillmore East with the Salem dangling from his mouth on a set of Fibes drums he was a REAL DRIVING FORCE as we can hear from the Bless Its Pointed Little Head lp . Played very well with the NRPS. A bit of a surly type person ,there was a benefit for him when he fell on hard times in SanFran, before he passed on a few years back. He was the man.By the way Mr. Dryden also played with jazz artist Charles Lloyd!

Ed Shaughnessy vs. Buddy Rich Drum Battle on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson

Some facts:
Ed Shaughnessy was a serious student of the tabla

The band playing was led by Doc Serverison a big band era trumpet player

Johnny Carson was an aspiring drummer himself at one time

Buddy Rich who started playing in vaudevile as Traps The Boy Wonder when he was six loved to play for young people. He played at my high school and played the Fillmore a bit. Another surly drummer( one of my old bosses when I worked ain a music store on 48th St NYC was in his sax section) loved to play for youth! He played my high school once and played the Fillmore with his big band.He started his big band with $10,000fronted to him by Frank Sinatra after his heart attack. Sinatra was a soft touch who was very very nice to his musicians and arrangers. He would also pay for Bela Lugosi to go into rehab to kick his morphine habits!!
