Happy festival of lights to all, it is just another time the Jew's overcame oppression and just kept right in stride. We Jews have lost Jerusalem many times through history; I guess this is why we are fighting so hard to keep it!

"Blessed are You, LORD, our G_d, King of the universe, Who has sanctified us with His commandments and commanded us to kindle the Hanukkah light[s]." Funny with only Ten Commandments you would think we would get it! But Noooooo!!!!!!

My grandchild to be born next year, has been made from a background of German, Native American, folks who came to the southern Ohio coal mines from the British Isles, Russian Jews, Sephardic Jews, Spanish and Turkish people. My seven-year-old granddaughter is part Irish Catholic with one Mayflower ancestor, Russian and Sephardic Jews and Spanish and Turkish, and she is Elvis Presley's fourth cousin. My husband Ike was part Olive Hill Kentucky and part Melungeon which includes Native American and African American ancestors. The newest babies in my extended family, I'm their great-aunt, are part Japanese. One of their aunts is African American. The chain of life works pretty good I'd say.......

Hi Fran That's quite a mix. I always thought my Puerto Rican-(Taino Indian-Spaniard) Catholic----Lithuanian Jewish background was pretty mixed up!! I did not know if I should root for the Sharks or the Jets when I was young! Anyway mixed breeds are the strongest and healthiest!!

Thanks, Fran and Rob, it's great hearing about such diverse family melting-pots. My ancestors were Russian, Polish and German Jews. My grandmother was born in Manchester, England, where a lot of Eastern European Jews had settled in the 1800's.
